Annnddd we ARE BACK!!!! I’m about to put it on this week, so sit back and throw on ya Cuban Links ans Coogi sweaters! This week are headed back to 1995 and one of the most slept on hip-hop artists of all time. Big L, the most valuable poet on the MIC.
Lamont Coleman aka Big L was discovered by legendary hip-hop artist and producer Lord Finesse while at an autograph session. Big L scored a few features on some Finesse’s work and with other various artists such as
Showbiz and AG (who we’ve featured on FBF in recent history). He also gained some notoriety early in his career by being a savage battle rapper, winning large battles all over New York. In 1995 he released his debut album Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, the album debuted at 149 on the Billaboard 200 and 22 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts. Unfortunately, like so many other rap legends Big L’s life was cut short on February 15th (which happens to be my birthday), 1999. His murder has gone unsolved to this day.
So lets put another plate on for Big L! RIP! Increase the weights and increase the peace!
