This Flyday we’re taking it back to ’97 and one of my all time favorite west coast gangsta rap groups, South Central Cartel. S.C.C. consists of group members Havoc, Prodeje, L.V. (remember the fat guy who sang the chorus in Coolio’s “Gangsters Paradise”??), Havikk The Rhime Son, Young Prodeje, DJ Kaos and DJ Gripp.
S.C.C. followed the lead of 80’s & 90’s west coast gangsta rappers such as N.W.A., Ice T, and Schooly D, popularizing the West Coast and G-funk sounds, as well as bringing attention to the devastation of inner city communities that was occurring in South Central Los Angeles at the time. Gangsta Rap started out as an underground art form and became an avenue for people’s voices to be heard. It also brought attention to gang violence, police brutality, and other injustices often over looked in American politics. S.C.C. was a relatively unknown group until the commercial success of their 1997 album All Day Everyday. The album was released by major label Def Jam Recordings and peaked at 178th on the Billboard 200 and 35th on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Charts.
All Day Everyday is an album that will always be near and dear to my heart, it was one of my first CD’s I ever purchased. I bought the album in third grade along with Too $hort “Born To Mack”, still to this day it’s one of my favorite albums. So without further adieu I bring to you “West Coast Gangstas” By South Central Cartel. Turn this one all the way up to 11 before any P.R. attempt and I guarantee you’ll hit it with power and cockiness never before seen!
