Hand Help

There are two things about CrossFit that are arguably inevitable:

1) If you show up often and work hard you WILL get stronger.  And 2) Eventually, you WILL rip your hands during a workout.

While one of those inevitabilities is a lot more appealing than the other, don’t despair just yet…  Take heart, because there are specific things you can do to help keep your hands healthy and minimize the risk of those dreaded and oh-so-painful rips!

Adrianna H. shared this great video on the Zone Facebook page awhile back, and I thought it was worth re-posting.  Have a look at what competitive Olympic weightlifter Donny Shankle has to say about hand care:

For some other tips on what you can do to take good care of your calluses, have a look back through some of our past Zone blog posts on this important topic:

  1. Sorry for the threadjack. I'm in the hunt for a good massage therapist and physio clinic. Any recommendations are surely appreciated.. 🙂

    1. Hillside Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine Clinic with Stephanie Yao. Busted my shoulder pretty badly and it stayed like that for about 6-8 months before I got back into Canada to get it fixed. She definitely helped getting it back into shape!

  2. For massage I see Tiffany Walker at Absolute Therapy (absolutetherapy.ca). She does some intensely deep tissue treatments, like really intense…but it is all worth it after wards 🙂 She works with a lot of athletes and has been amazingly helpful with my shoulder issues.
I'm sure Colleen is awesome too, but I've never had a massage from her! Tara from the Zone is also a massage therapist! Lots of great ones, it probably just depends on where you live and how far you want to travel!
For physio I like Chris May at PISE (Lifemark).
