I can

Here is a great Article (and image) from Journal menus google+ feed.

I can.

Two small words, just four letters, but such a powerful statement, a powerful mindset. Maybe more powerful than you imagine.

When you look up and think “Maybe?” you open the door to cranking out the double unders. It won’t be easy at first, but you opened the door, and now you can step through it.

When you think “Can I?” The bar will seemingly shed 10 pounds. It isn’t quite so heavy anymore, and for a moment, for a flash of a thought, you realize that yes, yes you can.

When you look at the time cap and think “I can do this” – damn straight you can, you can get yourself through the pain and agony, through the missed reps and the heavy breathing, because you know that you can – and your pace will reflect that.

The bad news is that this all works on the flip side as well.

When you look at the bar and think “I can’t” – you’re right, and I really wish you weren’t – but you are.

When you see the board and think “there is no way I can finish” – you are absolutely right. You will likely run out of time before your last rep is completed.

When you look at someone’s HSPU and think “I could never”, you’re right because “never” locks you out for life.

Simple words, simple thoughts, so small and seemingly meaningless, those are the ones that shape your workout and your life.

A small idea, taking root in your head before the clock starts ticking, the idea that you CAN do that many pullups.

You’re right.

Because that little thought, that little “I can” will change your pace, it will change how you push yourself, you will automatically go for bigger sets, heavier weights, harder skills.

Because you possess the ability, the strength and the speed.

Because you believe you can.

Don’t give up before you approach the bar, try a skill or the clock starts up.

You can do this, you can. You just have to believe.

You just have to tell yourself – again and again, as many times as is necessary “I can”.

Because you’re right.

You can.

Hold yourself accountable, use our “I can’t” Jar and pop in a quarter every time you use negative self talk.
