Are you a WOD HOG like Teej?
Are you going to compete in the CrossFit Open?
Who should compete in the Open?
- Anyone and everyone that can RX some of the WOD
- Athletes that feel like they have an advantage that came help out the Team. For example: amazing at double unders, has a lot of strength, or is a Pistol pro!
- Any athlete that wants to see how they rank in the gym, in Canada West or in the world of the CrossFit Community
How do I compete in the Open?
There are two steps to competing in the Open. First, you will need to create an account at http://games.crossfit.com/. Once you have an account, you can begin filling out your profile and will be able to receive notifications about the season if you choose to. Then, Register!
Registration is OPEN – click the link and go to “Participate in the Open” – http://games.crossfit.com/
*** All the info for the Open has not been released, but I believe that it will be the same format as last year, so see the notes below from 2011.
CrossFit Games Event Details:
- 5 events
- Starts February 22, 2012
- 1 event posted weekly on Wednesday, 5pm PST
- Event open until Sunday, 5pm PST
MUST REGISTER ONLINE to compete, $20 one-time reg fee (up $10 from last year)
- You can do workout as many times as you want in the week
- Enter scores online
- You can see where you rank for our region & across the world
- 60 top women, men and 30 top teams obtain place @ Canada West regionals
- Regionals are April 27th – 29th location TBA (last year was at UBC)
- 3 top male & females from Canada West have a place at the CrossFit Games 2011
Team Info:
- Top 3 scores for men and woman from each event contribute to our team ranking
- There can be different athletes for each event and anyone who is registered with our affiliate
- We benefit from having as many athletes competing in events as we can, as if excel at 1 event, this score can help our team
- For a team member’s workout to count toward the team’s total, they must still be “in the running” as an individual. This means that they have completed all previous Open workouts as prescribed.
CFZ specific info:
- Affiliate team members will be chosen based on placing from the 5 week sectional events
- Scheduling: We will be doing the Open work out on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm (after last wod) and a redo on the weekends arranged with a Certified coach ahead of time. We will post the times on the website prior. There will be no retesting during the week in daytime hours unless it is arranged ahead of time with a coach.

Im in, hoping to get my overhead squat and hspu's good to go by the end of the month. Was hoping to compete in masters division(45 and older) but I dont turn 45 until July 19th, 3 days too late, as you are ok as long as you are 45 before the 16th…dont really have any specific strong points to contribute, just looking forward to representing our gym!
the open's only 5 weeks this year. and it is the top 3 male and top 3 female scores for each workout that contribute to the team 🙂
greg – too bad about that 3 day discrepancy in your birthday! one more year to train hard, work on your weaknesses & go for it in 2013!
getting excited!!!
Thanks Lindsay!
I'm registered, and I'll bring some trail mix for the team to munch on! Looking forward to the competition!
I'm in too, I bring my Laid back attitude and me good looks! (ok… REALLY GOOD looks). also I'm a quick runner.
I totally knew the looks comment would come out after this post. Lets be honest, we will have the best looking team out there 😉
Oh yes, and registered! I will bring the pistols and the handstand pushups and maybe 2 muscle ups haha… and maybe some beef jerky?
Will be registering soon. I'm hoping for a WOD that is 1 minute or less, with any combination of box jumps, burpees, wallballs or pushups…. Like Lennon said "You may think that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not".
Greg R maybe we can make that 9 look like a 0.
Team related stuff. I volunteered to be in charge of the team this year. I'll tell you my plans for it at the gym, I don't want to give anything away to any other gyms that might come across our message board. But I will say that I won't be an athlete on the team (even if I surprise myself in the open), I'll just be it's dedicated organizer/coach/final decision maker so that the girls and guys doing the work have less to worry about.
For now, all you need to know is that if you want to be on the team you have to compete in the open.
Good luck everyone. Sorry I won't be there to be part of all the fun this year. I will be watching from Toronto.
Good luck to all our fearless Zone competitors!! Proud of you all, already. 🙂
Registered! I’ll be bring my camper.
My English good
I can volunteer to judge on Wednesdays if you need it!
Thanks Sarah 🙂 We would love to have you. Come down any time you are free!

You best throw down in TO 😉 Be the 2nd one at that gym that is competing 😉
