Be sure to stay tuned on the website for any more changes, as we are working on ADDING more classes during our absence if Coaches become available!

** We would like to extend our apologies to the Zoners for the inconvenience of the classes being cancelled in lieu of our quest to conquer the Regionals competition! If anyone misses a few classes because of it, and can’t make their weekly allotment, please contact admin@crossfitzone.ca to set up arrangements for future classes. **

Thanks for making the necessary notes in your calendars!

**Attention CFZ Ladies – Save the Date! On Friday, June 3rd, 2011, we’ll be having a Bridal Shower for the one and only Erika-Leigh Stirton! Details yet to be determined, so stay tuned…**

Today’s Workout

Buy-in: 3 rounds – 10 pvc dislocates, 10 walking lunges, 10 double crunch

WOD:  Broadside

This is our second go at this workout – we first saw it pop up at the end of January of this year.  Be sure to scale the overhead squats to your ability – there are a lot of them in the workout!

This is a partner workout – each partner must complete the following:

  • 5 rounds of: 300m row, 10 overhead squats (65/95)
  • One partner does both the row and squats then rests while partner 2 goes through.

Zone 3:  scale overhead squats to 45/65

Zone 2:  scale overhead squats as needed, 5 per round

Zone 1: scale workout as needed

GAMES PREP:  5 rounds – 300m row, 5 squat snatches @ 95/135 OR 10 squat snatches at 75/115

Cash-Out: 25, 50, 75, or 100 pullups – practice rhythm and flow, scale as needed

  1. My first reaction was “this looks like the Games” – meaning that the Regionals are on par with the difficulty level of the actual Games events.

Last year’s Regionals (in most cases) represented a kind of halfway point from Sectionals to the Games – and were still within reach of most strong crossfitters. This year’s Regionals are a massive step up from Sectionals and will be the proving ground for the BEST competitors.

The rest of the competitors will face severe challenges in terms of getting the WODs done within the (invevitable) time caps.

I’m disappointed in the lack of running – I still see that as a foundational fitness quality and 1k just really isn’t enough to punish people who are inefficient. Also, I was really hoping for some obstacle course/sandbag stuff or something different in that vein.

Lastly, I think that there is way too much overhead supporting stuff (100 overhead squats, squat snatch, overhead lunge)… but that being said, this is Crossfit, need to be ready for “anything”.

    Oh well, 3 – 2 – 1 go!

  2. Another option for this workout for those competing in Regionals – substitute 10to15 pullups and 10 floor to overhead with dumbbells/15 kettlebell swings instead of the ohs or squat snatches – got to get the volume in on these movements. Play around with what you think you need!

  3. I must say, I am pleased that there is no long run or row – these tend to be chinks in my armour.

I am a little worried about hands/grip. The row and thruster won’t be bad, but it seems like most of the events are going to be really tough on the hands! Hundreds of swings and pullups, heavy deads, ttb, etc. will all take their toll!

I’m dissapointed in the lack of creativity – I was hoping for some climbing, or carrying, or some sort of odd object lift or novel movements. That being said, I don’t think they left many stones unturned; good mix of modalities and a reasonable demand on skill and strength. just surviving the weekend will be a true test of stamina and recovery ability.

It will be interesting to see who’s been working on their high box jumps – cycling these quickly will pay off.

  4. My sensitive baby hands would probably fall off if I had to do that many “grip” activities in 3 days….
