Weekly Dose of FBF

This Flashback Flyday we’re throwing back to the year of ’88, when the rap legend Big Daddy Kane was solidifying his mark in the hip-hop game and Young Bladez was given the gift of life. Big Daddy Kane is regarded as one of the most influential MC’s from the golden age of rap, and consistently makes the top 5 or top 10 of every “greatest MC’s of all time” lists, including number 4 on the Blaze top 50 MC’s list (which I touched on last week, the one that rocked my little 10yr old mind). He’s also highly regarded by other rappers, including RZA, Ice T, Kool Moe Dee and Jay-Z (who was actually Kane’s hype man at one point during the early 90’s). Rakim even declined to go “mic-to-mic” with Kane. Ice T is quoted as saying,

“To me, Big Daddy Kane is still today one of the best rappers. I would put Big Daddy Kane against any rapper in a battle. Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, any of them. I could take his ‘Raw’ “swagger” from 88 and put it up against any record [from today]. Kane is one of the most incredible lyricists… and he will devour you on the mic. I don’t want to try to out-rap Big Daddy Kane. Big Daddy Kane can rap circles around cats”.

Kane even has a Grammy award under his belt for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his performance on the Quincy Jones collaboration “Back on the Block.”

My first exposure to Big Daddy Kane aka Blackanova aka Count Macula was that Blaze Top 50 magazine, I soon went on tear of BDK tracks. The first track which is still my favourite was “Warm It Up Kane.” So I now bring to you The song where it all started, hope you enjoy!
