Word Play

Do you drink the CrossFit Kool-Aid?

One of the fun parts of  CrossFit culture tends to be the witty and outrageous quotes that can be found on CrossFit T-Shirts worldwide!  There tends to be almost a contest of sorts when designing these shirt logos, to see who can be the most shocking and make the best use of our favourite CrossFit puns.

Check out some of the better slogans I’ve seen:

-Size Doesn’t Matter … Time Does.
-Got Callouses?
-I got a fever … and the prescription is more kettlebell.
-This is gonna suck … but in a good way.
-Force x Distance / Time = Power
-Makes the Hurt Feel Good
-Fitness is Earned
-100% Organic. No plastic, botox or silicone added. (woman’s shirt)
-I’d run away … if I could use my legs!
-You can cry.  Just don’t act like a baby.
-Tabata Squats: When Fran just isn’t enough.
-Can’t breathe, Can’t move, Can’t get enough.
-Blood is replaceable. Sweat is expected. Tears are optional.
-Building superior athletes, one hellish workout at a time.
-Love Your Body, Make It Hate You
-Highly Contagious: May Cause Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, and an Increased Risk of Fitness
-I can do more pullups than your boyfriend. (woman’s shirt)
-Like A Friendly Kick In The Crotch
-Specialize in nothing. Excel in everything.
-It doesn’t have to be fun, to be fun…
-Flat on your back in 20 minutes or less.
-Being weak is a choice … Be strong.
-If you can talk, you’re not trying hard enough.
-If you ask me what I am doing one more time . . . I’m going to make you do it with me.
-No, you CAN’T work in!  I’m doing this for time.
-I’d rather be stronger than I look.

And for something a bit classier, here are some  shirts that utilize quotes and proverbs:

-“Whatever you do, do with all your might.” – Cicero
-“Strong people are harder to kill than weak people, and are more useful in general.” – Mark Ripptoe
-“There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, its impossible to turn back.” – Henry Rollins
-“This is no time for ease and comfort. It is the time to dare and endure.” – Winston Churchill
-“Nothing will work unless you do.” – John Wooden
-“Obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.” – Unknown
-“Today I will do the things that other people won’t, so tomorrow I can do the things that other people can’t.” – Unknown
-“Be alive. Be very alive.” – Mark Rippetoe
-“From the pain comes the dream.” – Peter Gabriel
-“Don’t ask for a light load, but rather ask for a strong back.” – Unknown
-“Facta, non verba” (Deeds, not words)

Has anyone else seen some slogans worth sharing? Post to comments.

  1. “War is the realm of physical exertion and suffering.” – Carl Von Clausewitz (from “On War”) – on the backs of our shirts here at Iron Major CrossFit, Fort Leaveworth – home of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College

  2. Finally! You have no idea how excited I am about this post. I have been compiling quotes since I was 12, which seems kind of silly now but it will finally come in handy!

    Some faves from Sir W:

Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential.

I like a man who grins when he fights.

If you are going through hell, keep going.

Success consists of going from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm.

We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival.

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.

It is no use saying ‘we are doing our best.’ You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.

Curse ruthless time! Curse our mortality. How cruelly short is the allotted span for all we must cram into it!

Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.

Success is never found. Failure is never fatal. Courage is the only thing.

And a few from Mr. Hemingway just for fun:

But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.

The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.

Love this post. Love it. My 12 year old self is so happy right now.

  3. I didn’t realize the mathematical equation for power was a fancy slogan! how inclusive for the nerdy math types:)

  4. Wow Sarah, those are some good quotes… Churchill was a gem for sure… definitely a bit more high class than some of the standard crossfit ones too!

  5. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any widgets I

could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.

I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

3 completely different browsers and I must say this blog loads
a lot faster then most. Can you suggest a good web hosting provider at a reasonable price?
    Cheers, I appreciate it!

  7. Hi there, just became alert to your blog through Google, and found that it is really informative.
I am going to watch out for brussels. I will be grateful if you continue this in future.

  8. Great beat ! I wish to apprentice while you amend your site,
how could i subscribe for a blog site? The account helped me a acceptable deal.
I had been tiny bit acquainted of this your broadcast
provided bright clear concept Looking back fondly to the many hours I’d passed with those older games creeping around in dark corridors, heart racing like I’d just finished running the
mile, I was eager to see if Resident Evil: Revelations
could deliver on that boast. In previous gaming showcases, like E3, demonstrations were
made to the industry and the press only. Sound –
Other than its stereo sound (and the merits of the sound of various games),
people probably aren’t aware of the really nifty sound application on the 3DS.

  9. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your posts as long as I provide
credit and sources back to your weblog? My website is in the very same area of interest as yours and my users would
really benefit from a lot of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this ok with you. Many thanks!
