CrossFit Games Discussions

.

There’s a LOT of discussion about the ongoing CrossFit Games in L.A. this weekend. Very exciting stuff!  The live feed (click here) is a great way to keep tabs on the action, if you haven’t checked it out already.  I’m finding it exhilarating watching so many familiar faces attack those insane WODs!

So, I’m making a post with the specific purpose for Games Discussion and speculation in the comments section.

Aaaannnnnd….. DISCUSS.

I’m finding this a heck of a lot more interesting than the Olympics… is that wrong?? I’m cleaning my house with the live feed cranked up (now that I’ve fixed the sound!) and I’m enraptured…

(I’ll keep discussing with myself, here… 😛 ) CrossFit Lions takes Heat 1 on the WOD that has been affectionately nicknamed “Conga Line To Hell”! Way to represent by our friends from Vancouver!

  3. Watching Taranis do well here in heat 3!

I have a feeling that many of these WODs will show up (in some form) at the Zone in the near future :).

  4. who came up top in the individual event mens and womens? i was doing that savage wod today.

i find it waaay more interesting than the olympics!

  5. This is more interesting than the olympics and the World Cup combined!!!

Team WOD 3 is brutal! GHD followed by lunges. Ouch.

  6. I have to go to work but literally cant tear myself away haha I’m gonna set up my computer so I can peek periodically throughout the night! Hopefully get some more crossfit fans out of it!

  7. I’m really curious to see how WOD #3 goes for some of these athletes… pistol squats are a tricky movement.

    7 minute AMRAP of 7 DL (315/205), 14 pistols, 21 DUs

  8. i think it’s pretty unfair to the competitors since they proved themselves and paid for this.

in other news – that individual wod sounds incredibly fun!

  9. Should be interesting how they score after the cut. Does everybody who remains start with a fresh slate?

It will be a lot harder to make a comeback if the worst somebody can do is now 24. It seems to me it favours the leaders at the cut if that’s the way it’s set up.

  10. AND THE VIKING PRINCESS SURGES AHEAD!!! Huge props to Spealler for a gutsy WOD. Dissapointed in Rob Orlando; thought he would kill that one.

And they’re off nice and early this a.m.! I can’t believe these ring HSPU. Wild! Tough stuff. I have a feeling I’m not getting much done today, once again, as I’ll be glued to my Live Feed!

  12. watching this mornings events it shows how important gymnastics is-hspu on the rings, if the boys want to kick some ass next year, they better come out and work with sean!

Annie did awesome last night, that was her WOD. She still needs work on the gymnastic moves, but she’s awesome.

Camille has been unbelievable. I’ve been really pulling for her, yelling at my screen in my living room. LA is only 5 hours south so I’m pretty sure she hears me.

I was really pulling for DJ since he was the only Canadian man left, but those ring HSPUs were tough. Fun watching him throw 205 lbs around like he’s moving 95 though.

@Lucas I’ve been surprised with Orlando as well, but he’s doing much better than last year. I keep expecting him to destroy different workouts like shoulder to overhead, sandbag workout and the ring HSPU workout, but it hasn’t happened yet. However, he’s got a big reputation to live up to, lots of pressure. Same with Khalipa.

Hard to call the last event since it’s completely unknown. I’m thinking there’s going to be a 1 RM in there though.

The last affiliate workout is sick. Lots of movements many people don’t practice like rope climbs, wall climbs, etc. Should be awesome to watch.

CrossFit Vancouver came in 2nd overall in the 1st Heat of the Affiliate WOD! Way to represent, guys!

  16. watching this it a) makes me proud of our gym, since i started, we get more and more people competing by doing that we improve the level of competition. i know if taranis has a winter games the zone is going to come out and represent!
    b) makes me think of what we have to work on. some of my thoughts:
    odd object-sand bags
    rope and wall climbing
gymnastics-hspus, muscle-ups, ring push-ups-it is good to see those who are being proactive and going to gymnastics classes
    c) it makes me excited seeing the different skills that different members have-our gymnastics girls, heavy lifters, rowers-can’t wait to watch the next games

Not necessarily one dimensional, as you can do both ab and back exercises on it. But it’s always in dot.com programming, and it’s a strength a XFit athlete needs to develop!

PS – I’m watching this 6th WOD here, and can’t believe how much they increasingly require of these athletes. And they ALWAYS deliver! I’m amazed and humbled.
