Pants is back!
Hi Team!
You may see some new faces hanging around during your classes! Please introduce yourself to Amy or Connor, our Athletic Therapy work experience students.
Both Amy and Connor are 2nd year students in the Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy program. They have their CPR/AED certification at the HCP level and are currently enrolled in summer session courses. They are learning to become certified First Responders from the Canadian Red Cross to manage and treat urgent and non urgent injuries, perform injury assessments as well as taping/supportive techniques for musculoskeletal injuries.
They are certification candidates of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and are required to complete a total of 1200 volunteer hours (600 field and 600 clinical) in order to be eligible to attempt the National Certification Exam to become a Certified Athletic Therapist (http://www.athletictherapy.org/en/index.aspx).
We also have our own Francey Pants back for the summer to get some hours. France is in her third year of the Athletic Therapy program. France can help you out with effective taping and wrapping for common injuries and conditions of the limbs prior to the client’s participation in activity. She can evaluate injuries and conditions and problem solve what you can do to help your injury and what things you should not be doing to aggravate it.
If you have an injury or are looking at having a body part taped, please feel free to ask! They would love to help anyone out as much as possible.

yay pants!!!
i got to attend the foundations seminar today. in my years of crossfitting it was my first one-it won't be my last. i think any athlete can benefit from a check-in from time to time to work on technique. breaking the snatch down allowed me to focus on all the little areas i may have forgotten and will make me have a more proficient technique which i hope will result in new prs! great job by coach dee & jonathan-if you haven't tried it-do!
I also did the foundations seminar today! As a new crossfitter it helped me build not only my fundamental skill with the snatch, but my confidence in the lift as well! Thank you to Dee and Jonathan!
If anyone gets a chance to talk with/work with/have an evaluation with France – time well spent! My shoulder made unpleasant grinding/ripping sounds while bench pressing last month and on the road to recovery France has made a huge difference. The exercises she has suggested have been very effective. She's knowledgable, is passionate about she does, listens, and is very helpful. Thanks France! Awesome to have you and your great energy at the Zone for a while.
I have seen many people benefit from working with these students, so don't be shy! Make sure to let them know if anything is bothering you. Take advantage of this time as it will only be for the summer!
Thanks for the feedback on the seminar b and Nicola. It was a great group and everyone learnt a lot and showed improvement on their technique.
Good one to get back into. Nice to see you guys again!
I wouldn't be surprised if our local chiropractor from melbourne went through something like this. Skills like his could only have come from extensive training.
