Last week was an amazing experience for me being up before the crack of dawn and running to support Rob and Donald on their 300km Challenge. Normally you would not see me up that early, but I looked forward to it every morning because I loved being out there running with the guys. I am not really much of a runner… I really, really despised running, and it probably was my biggest goat! Before last week I had only ran 10km’s once and it took me 71 minutes. Last week I ran a total of 29km (including my first race – 8km) and rollerbladed 46kms with Rob and Donald. The first day running with the guys, I ran approximately 10kms in about 45 minutes. I was blown away when I heard that, I shaved off 26 minutes!
Now I can really understand when people talk about the ‘runner’s high.’ All this week I have been craving to go for a run, but my calves are sooooo sore still, so I am unable to. Need a few more days to recover! This last week has been a very inspirational week for me. I am so proud of the guys for completing the challenge and I am so glad that CrossFit Zone was able to be a part of it. I also want to thank Rob and Donald for giving me a chance to run with them and teaching me to become passionate about running. I am ready to wipe “Running” off of my Goat list now! I can’t wait to be fully recovered so I can get back at it.
Last week, I did something that I never thought I would ever do, I entered a running race! I am so glad that I entered. I finished the 8km race in 40:39. For not being a runner a 5 minute kilometer is a pretty good pace. I always tell people that doing CrossFit, you can get better at running without actually running… and I have just proved that this is true.
Thanks again Rob and Donald! Look forward to running with you in the future 🙂

I also found last week to be an amazing experience…more so than I thought it ever could be. Who would have thought that I could get so much satisfaction from getting up before there’s even a twinkle of sunlight in the sky to go out and run 10km! With regards to the benefits of crossfit, I can honestly say that without crossfit, there is no way that I would have been able to run 10km a day and 21km on day 7 after having taken almost 3 months completely off of running. In the week that Rob and Donald ran 300km – I ran a total of 98km..which leads me to talk about the insane mental drive and toughness that these two guys possess.
It seemed that every morning I would bite my tongue so as not to complain about my aches and pains (sometimes unsuccessfully) which must have be so mild when compared to the type of discomfort that these guys must have been feeling after running 42km a day. I would hardly hear any complaining from them as they would first sit in the car and tape up whatever sores they had on their feet…and then move towards that start line with such determination that I would believe that they never even dreaded a moment of it. If you’ve ever seen someone cross the finish line after a marathon, you will feel and understand my sense of wonder and respect that these two men did this 7 days straight! It truly blows my mind! I pick my heroes carefully…and these two definitely make the cut. I don’t know what drives these guys forward when they are feeling sore and fatigued, but my assumption is that it is the need to push through the physical boundaries to see how far they can make their bodies go (I’m sure all you crossfitters can relate!). The fact that they are willing to do this while supporting a cause (Big Brothers and Big Sisters) is a truly wonderful thing. Without knowing their personal stories, I just want to say that Rob and Donald’s friendship (brotherhood!) and their desire to give back to something that has obviously made an impact on their lives has truly inspired me. CrossFit Zone is so lucky to have these two athletes in our gym and I am so happy to call these two men my friends!
I echo Deanna in saying that I look forward to running with you two again in the future.
