Hello team,
So the competitors have picked up their registration packages for tomorrow’s competition and the first of four events has been released:
Against a 10 minute running clock, each participant has one attempt to get a max number of pullups (chin over vertical plane of bar), followed by as many attempts as they want at getting a 1RM squat clean. Both components are scored separately and the squat clean must not be a power clean and front squat combo.
Should be a cracker… good way to start with something strength-related as opposed to a massive metcon… but of course that will come later!
First heats kick off at 9 am, second event is revealed at 11 and then onwards from there. The last event for the day will be explained at 410pm so we’re looking at everything being wrapped up by 630-730 or so. A long day but it will be exciting all the way through with our guys and girls laying it on the line in every WOD. Come on down if you want to check out the action at Crossfit Taranis – no fee for spectators!
REMEMBER: There is only ONE class this morning, at 9:00 a.m. This is so everyone can head down and cheer at Taranis and support our CFZ Family!
Today’s Workout
Buy-in: Select teams of 3, generate a team name, 5-7 minutes to get extra warm and strategize for the workout 🙂
WOD: Winter Challenge Mashup
In the spirit of the competition, we’ve got a line up of good competitive events for your teams to battle out!
Part 1 – 10 minute running clock
- Each team member gets one attempt at max pullups (our usual standard applies here). If you use a band, your reps will be divided by 2
- In the remaining time, as a team you must complete as many ring dips, burpees, and situps as possible. All three team members can go at one time, each team needs a set of rings to work off. If you use a band for ring dips, your rep number will be divided by 2. Each team member must get at least 5 of each movement.
- These two events are scored separately
Part 2 – Row relay fun
- As a team, you must row as far as possible in 9 minutes, all using the same erg. Score will be in total metres traveled.
Rank each team in all of the events to determine the winner!
Cash-Out: Relax, visit CF Taranis to cheer on our Zoners!

Exciting stuff happening at the Taranis Games. They are into Round 3 now (20 min AMRAP of air squats, double unders, and 200m run).
Round 2 was 3 rounds (5 min cap) of 15 wallballs and burpees I think.
Round 1 was max pull-ups followed by max 1 rep squat clean (in 10 mins).
I saw some great performances by the Zoners in that first workout. It was hard to tell exactly how many reps or what weight they were lifting, but I know Lindsay dominated the pull-ups getting 32!! And I know Cam lifted 240 on clean, and I think Scoots was somewhere around 345 ish. Both Scoots and Teej had about 40 or 41 pull-ups I think.
What a day, here are the overall results (as best as I can remember) in case anyone wants them!
Lindsay – 12th
Dee – 16th
Lucas – 3rd
Cam – 15th
Teej – 17th
Eric – 41st
Jer = 48th
Well done guys!
Killer competition…awesome job guys! It was awesome to be a part of it…on the sidelines.
Hey guys,
Thank you SO much for all the support throughout the competition, I know for me having my friends there helping me through the workouts makes a huge difference. It was an epic day for sure with some great performances all round from our gang.
Stay tuned for more from our awesome Zoners team on Sunday!
I love you guys,
