Hey Team,
So the games are but a couple of sleeps away and I can feel the excitement building. Competitors are fine tuning their movement standards, spectators are wagering on who will be champ, and our whole community is buzzing! This blog covers some extra details about the event, so check it out below.
General Info:
- Doors will open at 8:30am, judges meeting asap so if you’re interested in that then get in at that time
- 8:45am will be a general greeting – all athletes should be in the gym by that time
- Washrooms will be limited – so feel free to visit some of our local businesses to use theirs 🙂
- Avoid bringing in too many items – leave them in your car until needed (parking is free on the streets on Sundays)
- Please don’t park in the Zone lot – we will need as much space as possible for the BBQ and other activities
- Free food will be available to consume! Edgar will be rocking the BBQ, and we’ll have some cold drinks and other goodies to munch on
Competitors:
- Be sure to ask any questions about workout standards through this blog if possible. That will save a lot of last minute explanation so you can just focus on what you need to do.
- If you are scaling the WODs in the open category, you need to know in advance what you are going to scale to. There won’t be a whole lot of time during the actual event to tune weights/pullups etc.
- Due to minimal space in the gym during the competition, most general warm-up stuff will have to take place in the parking lot. I’ve given pretty generous time for the completion of WODs so each successive group of competitors will be able to get in specific practice with the actual equipment for 5-10 minutes before their heat begins.
- Although you will be judged, hold yourself to the highest standards and perform movements so that there is no doubt about whether or not it is a rep. Respect your judges and respond quickly to their cues.
- Advanced Women Final WOD – there will be 20 knees to elbows instead of the original 30.
- There will be prizes! Hopefully for 1st-3rd in each category… but of course the real prize is knowing you performed to your highest ability 😉
Spectators:
- There will be space in the gym designated as spectator areas and these areas will change a bit as the competition changes. All spectator areas will be marked clearly.
- Please make sure to stay in the areas outlined and avoid crossing the gym floor during WODs. In between WODs is fine.
- Feel free to cheer as much as you want! The competitors will hear you and will pick up their game!
- Bring only minimal bags/clothing etc into the gym – parking is free on the streets on Sundays so leave all excess stuff in your car until you need it.
Potential Judges
- Anyone who is interested in judging (this includes participants) should be at the judges meeting which will take place at 830am.
- If you would like to judge, you should be very familiar with all of the movements of the competition and be willing to make tough decisions if need be.
- Aside from that, it’s a great way to get involved in the competition up close and personal!
Saturday’s Workout:
Buy-in: Group into teams of 3 or 4, get pumped up!! Teams should be made up of individuals with around the same strength level… Competitors in the Games, take it easy today – just stretch or roll out or something 🙂
