Taranis Winter Challenge Update

Hey Zoners!

The Taranis Winter Challenge is coming up this weekend.  The events start on Friday, November 16th and go all weekend until Sunday, November 18th.  Come on down to cheer on your fellow Zoners Greg, Warren, Sean, Barry, Jer, Adrianna, Murphy and myself.

We have not received an official schedule, but here is some info about Friday:

TARANIS WINTER CHALLENGE FRIDAY NOVEMBER 16th SCHEDULE:

3pm – 5pm: Check-in for athletes
5pm: First WOD debriefing/check-in closes.
5:30pm Warm-up pit opens
6:00pm First Individual heats begin.

Just as an FYI: We are anticipating a wrap up of competition at approx 4pm on Sunday with a complete wrap up and awards presented by 5pm at the latest.

TARANIS WINTER CHALLENGE HELPFUL ADVICE:

For Saturday morning, whether you are a volunteer or competitor, dress for November in Victoria. This means you will more than likely see wind and rain, approximately 0 degrees centigrade, perhaps snow and equally as likely as snow, sunshine.

If you are a competitor (team or individual) make sure you have dry WOD gear to change into, bring a variety of footwear (maybe even cleats?) perhaps even something that keeps your hands warm and dry and perhaps protects the palms from debris on the ground.

If there is skipping at any point throughout the weekend, you may use your own rope.

TARANIS WINTER CHALLENGE FORMAT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Individual Format: WOD1, WOD2, WOD3, WOD4 and WOD5 will be scored using the “points for placing” system and will carry us through to Saturday night. After Saturday night all men and women will be seeded.

The top 40 men and top 30 women will continue on to the finals on Sunday and be placed into an elimination bracket based on his/her seeding after WODs 1-5.

To win the Winter Challenge the athlete must survive 5 rounds of events and beat all of the competitors in his/her way.

Round 1 will be 8 heats of 5 for the men and 6 heats of 5 for the women. The athletes must come in the top 2 places in their heat in order to move on to round 2.

Round 2 will be 4 heats of 4 for the men and 3 heats of 4 for the ladies. The top 2 athletes in each heat move on to round 3.

Rounds 3, 4 and 5 are all head-to-head. You must beat your opponent to move on.

The higher you rank after Saturday, the better your draw is for Sunday but watch out for the underdog (can anyone say LA Kings?)

The rounds get progressively more demanding and challenging.

Any predictions on what we will see this weekend?  Please post your thoughts to the comments 🙂
