Hi Team,
I wanted to send out a special update post today to keep the Zone Family in the loop…
As most of you know, CrossFit Zone began in March of 2008 with classes that were run out of the Gorge Kinsmen Park. We didn’t open the doors to our recently vacated Herald St. box until January 2009. At that point, I moved into the Herald St. gym with 11 members and was doing everything to head up the business; from running 90% of the classes, programming all the WODs, running intros and keeping up with all the office work. Then, lo and behold Cam showed up to the gym for our Grand Opening in May 2009 to join in on doing “Fran”. He enjoyed the atmosphere so much that he just had to be a part of the family! I welcomed him with open arms, and he got started running classes in trade for his membership.
Throughout Cam’s initial time at the Zone, he wanted to get more and more involved with helping the gym grow and building it up to what it is today. This led him to make the decision to then become an official co-owner of the Zone. We were excited for all that lay ahead as we worked to improve The Zone together.
I am posting today to inform our members that Cam has decided to move on to a new adventure in his life, and will be stepping down from being an owner of CrossFit Zone. But don’t worry, you will still see him around the Zone throwing down WOD’s and spreading his special brand of Turts love!
We wanted to take this opportunity to send out a special thanks to Turts for all his hard work over the years with the workout programming, running classes, making our members fit, and changing peoples lives!
Please show your love for Cam in the comments, and let him know how much we appreciate having him as a part of our Zone Family!
We also wanted to assure you that the Zone is running business as usual and growing and improving everyday. We are in preparation of making 2012 an amazing year! If you have any questions or comments about this change, please feel free to ask me about it when you see me in the gym, or send me an email to deanna@crossfitzone.ca.

Thanks Cam, really happy & thank-full to have you "around" and have enjoyed getting to know you better, and look forward to you kicking my butt some more too….
Hey Greg, likewise – it's been great to see you conquer skills and wods at the Zone and to just chat and bang ideas around… always a good time with the "Rangler"!!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop D, it's amazing how far the Zone has come in 3 years!
Cam, you've brought a lot to the Zone, from your coaching, programming, inspiring other crossfitters, and a lot of nice equipment too (ergs, barbells, weights, etc)! I really value all that you've done for us, and I look forward to seeing you around the Zone, the track, a pub, or anywhere else 🙂
Yeah budday!
Hey Chris, thanks man for everything YOU have done for the Zone and our membership – you're always a great supporter of athletes in competitions and inspiring to watch on the track and road. Glad you mentioned the weights… a little bit more resilient than the ones we started with! See you soon… my shoes are still soaked from the track last night!
Hey chris… didn't leave you out, my comment is awaiting moderation 🙂
Did you put some swear words in there? They don't usually allow those…
maybe censored for other reasons? Anyway, I wanted to say thanks to YOU for your contributions to our community – you have always been such a great supporter and always willing to cheer people on whether inside the box or on runs. You've also inspired myself and others with your accomplishments both in the gym (Zone games 1 open winner!) and outside of it on the track and road.
Glad to have helped out and am looking forward to seeing you soon… maybe I'll check the weather before our next run since my shoes are still wet!!
Hey Cam
You brought a lot of talents and skills to the Zone but I think the most important thing was your possitive attitude and williness to work with everyone to help make them better. I know you did that with me and I will always appriciate it. You have also been a great competitior and someone I have always aspired to be be ale to compete with.
Just remember, I am only a couple steps behind and have no intention of staying there 😉
Hey the Bruce … I think the positivity is a true reflection of the quality of people we have in our community – it's always been great working with you and your progress has been awesome to watch. If I've helped in that regard then I'm happy for sure.
Looking forward to battling with you in the Sectionals and beyond my friend, see you on the WOD floor!
You da man Turts! Really appreciate everything you've done for me the last couple years. From technique advice to competition prep, you always seemed to have the answers.
I look forward to training with you more and soakin up whatever tidbits I can.
You're a real gem budday !
Hey Dubby, thanks for the props. It's been great training with you and pushing each other to get better – I even had insight into the "stump" factor for a while there! Definitely willing to share any and all knowledge that will get us to where we want to be, see ya soon, we'll throw down!
Cam, can’t say enough good things about you. You’ve always been an encouraging and supportive presence, never losing sight of how much we can gain as individuals by working as a team. Thanks for helping me see my potential and for providing the tools, information and support to improve.
Mr. Giles, you are a warrior and a gentleman… that second line is golden by the way. I've been impressed by your persistence and diligence in training and learning new skills and recently even more so by your progress in the coaching role. the future is bright young jedi.
Cam – you're one big reason why I stuck with it in the early months of this journey. Friday evening 5:30 classes last fall – when I didn't know what the hell I was doing (less than I don't know what the hell I'm doing now!) – you were encouraging and enthusiastic.
I always enjoy watching you compete, talking to you about nutrition, and soaking up some of your experience and training.
I look forward to more of the same.
Jim, I've learned more from you than almost anyone else in our community. I really admire your dedication to technique (while still) pushing to your limits… I think in terms of putting an equal balance on health, performance, and longevity, you have it figured pretty well. Thanks for your comments, hope to see you soon.
Cam – you are one heck of a nice guy. Always supportive, always encouraging, a great mentor and a phenomenal coach. It's a sad day!
Hey Sarah, we've had some times hey? Some good times, some not as good times, but we've made it through and guess what, you're a pretty darn good crossfit athlete (and great person). I think your enthusiasm for prowler is pretty much unequalled anywhere, so you've definitely got that going for you too. I'm glad to have helped in any way that I could and hope I can still help out if needed.
cam
Cam, you are the reason that Tisha agreed to sign up when we first came in for our intro. And if Tisha wasn't going to sign up I wouldn't have either. I think anyone else might have scared her off, I know you were just being yourself… but I still thank you for that.
Hey Craiggers… that's crazy man – the only reason I wanted to stay around at the Zone is because Tisha and yourself signed up!!! What a weird world… In all seriousness though I really enjoy what you two have brought to the Zone – I think most of all the positivity and just plain ole "good peopleness" that you bring to the table. The greatest thing ever to me was to see in the last Zone Games (or was it ZG 4?) Tisha start to run as she rounded the corner to get back into the gym… a great person conquering one of her goats. And for you my man, your energy and willingness to help the Zone in any way possible has been amazing. I also like how you're taking a very planned approach to your prep this year and am interested to see how this year shapes up. Thanks.
Cam – I didn't get many opportunities to attend your meow classes, but your personality and meow humour were always evident in the meow wods and it was one of the reasons I looked forward to the wod posting (especially when it was Caturday!).
Wendy, I think something's wrong with yourmeow computer… hmmmm. ;). You've been one of our most consistent members over the last few years – in spite of some injury woes from time to time. In an activity where there tends to be a certain lifespan, you have bucked the trend and stood the test. I admire your solid skills all round and your positivity… when I did get the chance to coach you it was always a treat.
Cam, Always a pleasure to attend your classes.Coaching or participating, you are always very encouraging and fun to be around. I hope your next endeavours will be as fulfilling as your time here at the Zone. Thank you for helping to make it what it is today. WOD with you soon.
Hey Jon, thanks for your kind words. I've enjoyed watching your progress through classes and MFT and it's great to see you make the strides that you have over the past while. I like your thoughtful approach to training and look forward to seeing what you can do in the future. See you soon.
Cam, i always looked forward to attending your classes. Loved your programming and learned a whole heck of a lot. It's been an amazing year at the zone and you have been a big part of it. Look forward to tackling a WOD with you very soon. I will miss your coaching and encouragement to always get better. Thank buddy.
Hey Amrit, your willingness to learn and improve is second to none and I like the fact that you have always kept a cool head and moved at the pace that is right for you – technique before intensity is always the way to go for long term progress! I enjoyed coaching classes for you and I'm hoping we can get to train together soon.
For those of us that have experienced the pleasure and expertise of your time and coaching, you will be so missed in that capacity!! But just to know that you are still here means everything because you are so adored and valued! I know personally, as do many of us, how you have helped us to reach our goals, small or significant, and if we failed, you have shown and taught us a different path to get the same result or success! Simply stated- thank you for being you because you are a special one!
Hey Nicci, unfortunately I didn't get enough time coaching you since I wasn't around at the classes in the mornings but it has been great to see how you've progressed over the past year. Your intensity is awesome in wods and your technique on skill work continues to improve which is a great sign. Can't wait to see what 2012 and beyond hold for you. Thanks for your message, see you soon,
cam
