An 8-week running clinic came to an end on Sunday, April 28th. It was the TC10K, a 10km run through beautiful areas of Victoria.
A team of Zoners ran together twice a week, training for the TC10K. For most athletes, the TC10K was either their first 10km race or “the race” that brought their running spirit out of hibernation. The training started out with 3-4km runs. It even included a 5km TT. Threw in a bit of track work. There was even a long flight of stairs halfway through a tempo run. We only ran 10km once before the actual race day. Most of the runs were pretty snappy! The programming certainly reflected aspects of the CrossFit Endurance methods. The result? Everyone set a PR and those that registered with the CrossFit Zone team contributed to a 4th place finish in the corporate division!
Thanks for the opportunity to be one of your run leaders. Lisa, Danielle and I had one main goal as co-leaders: to continue building a sense of community at CrossFit Zone. I believe we accomplished our goal. It makes me smile to think of our diverse group of runners. We trained together. We ran. We rocked it!
Cheers,
Billie Jane

Here are some comments from members of the team:
Nicola Swan I had such an amazing time training for the 10K. I did not consider myself a runner and certainly hadn’t ran 10K all at once before. Running with Lisa and Billie Jane was awesome! They were so supportive and encouraging! I appreciate them waiting for me at every turn and at times running back to literally push me Thanks ladies! I am so proud of how far I came in the weeks of training and couldn’t have done it without you!
Nella Mauro After a seven year break from running I decided I wanted to lace up my running shoes again and train for the TC 10K. I wasn’t having the greatest success with my own training, so when the CrossFit Zone team and running group started I was all over it. The two group runs a week with Billie Jane, Lisa, and the amazing running group members, was just what I needed. The training schedule, motivational support, and technique advice enabled me to push through eight weeks of training and complete the TC10K two minutes faster than planned! It was truly a fun experience.
Kyle Stroshein I used the TC10K group to motivate me so that I can do a half marathon and feel comfortable at the tough mudder this year. It was great to have a team i could count on when i needed advice. I learned how to breathe properly and run with a pace. The race went great and I went faster than I planned by 5minutes.
Alexander Florin Pickering • During the most stressful time of the semester I was able to balance school and somewhat train for the TC10k. I was able to do so because I could follow a specific training schedule thanks to CrossFit 2013 Team. I may have not trained with the group, however, I was able to train when I could thanks to a great sense of community that evolved around our CrossFit Zone 2013 Team FB group. Not really knowing what to expect for a finishing time, I ran as hard as I could and achieved a pretty good finishing time. Note to self, when moving and putting belongings in storage locker double check what you have locked up, don’t lock up running shoes in storage before the day of the race… arch of bottom foot is mega pain. Awesome run everyone!
Kirsty French Running is something that I have always struggled to commit to. By starting at a manageable distance and gradually building over time I found that 10km was not so scary after all! Having really supportive trainers and a team full of people of all experience also made it really fun! To finish it off, thanks to the encouragement of Lisa along the way, I finished the TC10km with a PB!!
Lindsee Tomporowski Running has always been my goat, I had attempted to tackle it on my own a couple of times in the past with little success. When the opportunity came up to run with a group led by Billie Jane and Lisa I jumped, I was so excited. As the distances increased over the weeks I wish I could say that it got easier and I grew to love running but to be honest it was always challenging but I did learn how to pick my pace and listen to my body and I did sort of start to enjoy it. As the weeks went on and the race grew closer I was getting a bit nervous because even though we had run 10K previously it had been with the group, I knew that if I was left on my own I wouldn’t be able to do it without stopping so Billie Jane graciously agreed to be my “Pace Bunny” and because of her I managed to finish the race about three minutes faster then I had planned. Yay! thanks ladies for the guidence i’m going to miss our Monday and Thursday evening.
Lisa Ann I’m going to miss it, too! It was so awesome to work with Billie Jane and run with such an awesome community of people. I tend to run on my own but I honestly think that the encouragement and support of all of you helped me achieve a new pb on Sunday! It was so fabulous to share that experience with you, so thank you!
