Who’s programming?

How did you like the workouts this week?

Did you know that it was not me programming this week?

Over the next couple weeks we are trying something new….  Coaches and Apprentices are giving a go at programming the WODs for you.  They submit their weeks worth of programming a head of time and I am giving them feedback and making changes as needed. Sometimes in programming, people have a tendency to program what they love and leave out their goats; the reverse can happen as well.  The great thing about having other people programming is that you get a good variety of workouts and movements.  A challenge that can happen in this case is everyone wants to program the most killer workouts ever!  We will make sure to program in some not as intense workouts and recovery type weeks to balance this out, if needed 🙂

This weeks programming was  designed by your Apprentice Coach Adam Abzilla Giles.  Please feel free to give us your feedback!

Todays Workout:

Buy In – Get warm before class with 3 rounds of CF warmup.

Shoulder Press 3×5 – work up to 65-70% of 1rm. Work on solid posture and smooth reps, do not use legs! 10 minutes on clock.

5 minute review and practice of proper tire flip technique. Work to find the tire size/weight you’ll be using for the WOD.

WOD – ‘Rubber Meets the Road’

AMRAP in 15min of:

  • 300m wallball run (14/20)
  • Tire flips

With a Partner, choose a team name, the theme is “holiday food”

In the workout, both partners are working at the same time.  1 partner is running while the other partner is doing max tire flips.  Your score is a total of your Runs (1 rep each) plus each tire flip (1 rep each)

* Be prepared, if class sizes are large, that we will have to do the workout in heats or some members will have to flip smaller tires.

Zone 2 – Scale wallball weight to 10lb / 24lb

Zone 1 – Scale as needed

Cash Out – MWod 18 – Sliding surface recovery

Test: Leg Soreness. Ease of Squatting/Deadlift Pulling Position
Mob: Collect 10 min total rolling around on your legs.
ReTest: Do you feel more ready to charge tomorrow? Can you see how treating your sliding surfaces is really only just one component?

  1. FIrst of all – I have really enjoyed the WODs this week, great variety – great work Adam! Second – yah, love to be there for the 10 am class. And the theme – holiday foods – who wants to join me and be Team Baconater? 😉

  2. I have really enjoyed the WODs this week (Mon, Wed & Fri) – Adam: great job.

And France, and Lucas – great instruction too.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for all the kind feedback everyone! It was both really fun and a great learning experience to put together the programming this week! Dee offered great support and structure to ensure we covered our target fitness 'bases' for the week. I decided to try making up new workouts for the majority of days. This allowed me to use some creativity and think critically about how to put together an appropriate wod to meet each day's programming goals. Sorry about the weird names… couldn't help myself. There's not much of a logical explanation for some of the names. I was listening to a song called Dirty Dishes off an album called War Elephant when I made up Monday's wod… I modeled Tuesday's 'Trifecta's Cousin, Marvin' off a wod called Trifecta that Cam had previously made up. And 'Fly Trapped in a Jar' is the name of another song.. but the frantic pace of that workout is somewhat reminiscent of a fly trapped in a jar, sort of… Thanks for putting up with my weird wod names. 🙂
I appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions. The goal is for everyone to achieve their individual fitness goals, and have fun while doing it. As an apprentice coach, i'm always looking at how i can better support each individual i help coach or wod with.
