2010 CrossFit Games Affiliate Team TRYOUTS

CrossFit Zone will be holding tryouts for the 2010 CrossFit Games Affiliate team…

DATE: Sunday April 18th
TIME: 10:00am – 12:30pm

Participation at Sectionals March 27-28 in Squamish will be considered in team selection.

Last year it was first come first serve, this year each affiliate team must qualify.  Six teams will represent Canada at the CrossFit Games in California.  CrossFit Zone will be sending a team (consisting of 6 athletes, either 3 girls 3 guys or a 4/2 split) to the Canadian Regional Qualifiers held May 29-30th at Natural High CrossFit in Okotoks.  The goal of this team will be to win the Canadian Title and qualify CrossFit Zone for the 2010 CrossFit Games on July 16-18th in Aromas, California!

Everyone is welcome to try out!  There will be limited scaling options available as there will be no scaling at the Regionals.

We will be including the results from the first round of tryouts in our team selection.  Once the team has been selected, we will be holding team training sessions to prep for the challenge.

Today’s Workout:

Buy In – Quick warm-up of 3 x bear crawl one length of floor and 5 goblet squats

WOD – “Andrew Byrnes”

Andrew Byrnes is a member of the Canadian heavyweight rowing team and won Olympic Gold in Beijing.  He is featured in the poster on rowing technique and one of the ergs we recently received is the one he used in the lead up to the 2008 Olympics.  At 6’6″ and not a naturally muscular guy, Andrew has worked very hard to increase his strength to match his amazing work capacity and is looking towards London 2012 and another gold medal.  Let’s hope some of his power rubs off on us!

This is a three part wod:

Part 1:  Front Squats – 4 x 3 reps to hit a 3rm

Part 2:  Push Press – 4 x 3 reps to hit a 3rm

Part 3:  8 x 30s on/30s off rowing intervals for max metres – as a group – coach will time intervals with the big clock.

Add up your 3rm on the front squat to your 3rm on the push press and your total metres traveled for your score.

Games preppers – do a second round of 8×30/30 after a good 5-7 min rest
