Hey Zoners,
So part of being a well-rounded fitness enthusiast is regularly trying out new sports and activities that challenge your body in different ways. Even though we incorporate a huge variety of training stimuli into our training weeks, there are just some things we can’t program in!
One great activity that fits the bill is indoor climbing. It requires strength, flexibility, coordination, muscular endurance, confidence, patience and persistence… it covers a lot of bases! Climbing is also great for overcoming fear of heights (Michelle could tell you a good story about my first time climbing!). Two of our intrepid members, Craig and Tisha, have just recently taken up climbing and are heading out Saturday to get in some routes. A number of other members have tried their hands at it before too so it’s definitely a complimentary activity to CrossFit… plus you want to be able to use all those pullups for something right?
Crag X is a great place to go and try it out with a beginner lesson (talk to Craig and Tisha about how they set up theirs) as you’ll need to be taught belaying by a certified individual. If you know how to belay though, you can always go in and take a belay test to showcase your skills.
As mentioned, C+T are heading down tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm and it looks like myself, Coach Bones, and Jerbear might be joining them. If there’s interest in getting a group session together, let me know and I can start getting things set up… otherwise set up an intro, get it done, then climb to your heart’s content!
