Day 1 down and 2 days to go. Friday was such an amazing day for the Zone competitors.
The day started off with Emily and Sean on team Jackie. Emily was 2nd on too the thrusters and 1st on the pullup bar finishing Jackie with an un-official time of 8:59. Then Sean was on to the erg. Sean went unbroken with the thrusters and made it through 16 pullups before the 15 minute time cap. The team finished the workout in 15th place.
Lucas crushed Jackie! He set a steady pace on the 1km row, super fast thruster pace and unbroken butterfly pullups with a 5:08 time. This put Lucas in first place on the workout and only 4 seconds of the record set time of Jason Kallipa in the Norcal Regionals.
Event 2 was the 3 rep max overhead squats and burpee muscle up amrap. The team was very relaxed going in to this workout with lots of positive thoughts. The guys started off with the burpee muscle ups and the girls on the overhead squats. The guys repped out 55 reps in the 7 minutes with only 1 no rep. The girls went conservative on their overhead squats to save the shoulders for the burpee muscle ups. The girls were so calm and relaxed as they all got through their first set of 3 muscle ups each. It was so exciting to watch! AJ got into her second round of muscle ups and completed two more, giving the girls a score of 22 reps. So that means that our team is moving on to DAY 2!
In the overhead squat workout our team placed 20th with a total of 930 lbs. Ray hit a 3 RM PR of 235lbs. We finished the burpee muscle up workout in 11th place which is our best placed workout so far.
Lucas put on the singlet for some extra strength and hit 305lbs for 2 reps in his overhead squat which put him in 1st place for the workout. Way to go Lucas!!!! On to the burpee muscle ups when the shoulders are not as fresh. Lucas tied for 5th place with a finishing time of 6:11. He finished the day in first place where the second place athlete Tyson Takasaki is 6 points behind him.
I am very excited to see how the competitors do tomorrow!
