I liked the demonstration of how much weaker the body is when the spine isn't in a neutral position – resisting Dee trying to push my arm down when my head was tipped forward or back was significantly harder than when I was looking straight forward. Also, being told to keep my neck in exactly the same place with respect to my shoulders from my usual starting deadlift position to the top of the lift made me realize how out of line my neck is in the starting position. I'll admit to having previously tuned out the coaches when they shouted about neutral spine because I always thought mine was fine, but that kind of demonstration really illustrates that it wasn't.
Great to hear! Thanks Wendy 🙂 That is why technique week is great because we can use some of those little exercises to demonstrate what we mean (neutral spine) and show the difference of when it is not done properly.
I feel that technique week is really beneficial because it certainly points out the weaknesses that you don't notice or are not fully aware of. I know my limiting factor is always mobility first but thanks to today's DL session I will work harder at it because I can't imagine how much better lifting will feel if I am able to get into the correct starting and finishing positions!
very helpful, especially as a newbie. Coming from someone who has just done more "conventional" weightlifting without any real coaching, so helpful to see all the little things I've been doing wrong during simple exercises like squats and dead lifts. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback team! Keep up the hard work and attention to detail 😉
what a great couple of classes. it's good to be reminded of the details that you sometimes forget, for me it was my head positioning, i don't usually think about it i just look straight ahead and lift with these technique classes i've been reminded a couple times now that that it's a neutral spine you want. Thanks for running these classes this week, i think we can all benefit from a little reminder.
I found the class helpful, especially in reminding me to keep a tight core. That has been my downfall. I think I will improve at positioning myself first and having my body ready before lifting now.
Such a great class and perfect class to come back after being away for awhile. It was very helpful and reminded me of the details that sometimes I forget, such as keeping a neutral spine. The mobility exercises I learned will help me get into the correct position before lifting.
What I took away (the most) from today's technique session was the need to torque the knees rather than turn out the toes. That made a huge difference for me. Thanks!!
